Rainbow® SmartWx is a web-based application framework for the display of various meteorological geo-referenced data as well as for the provision of a fit-for-purpose decision support during adverse weather conditions. SmartWx uses a multi-tier state-of-the-art software architecture that has been implemented in the scope of the Research & Development program SESAR (Single European Sky Air Traffic Management System Research).
Due to the flexible software architecture, the holistic concept of SmartWx can be used for a wide range of different applications for the hydrological, meteorological, aviation meteorological or tactical domain. The challenging requirements of a system that handles meteorological information (MET) for multifarious environments have led to a framework that is almost completely adaptable concerning the meteorological data input as well as the operational context.
The system consists of four main components connected via a communication layer: Rainbow® processing and product generation, SmartWx geo server, SmartWx web server and SmartWx browser client.
