Selex ES GmbH, a Leonardo company, has been awarded a turnkey contract for five (5) X-Band weather radar systems by the Agency for Air Navigation Security in Africa and Madagascar, ASECNA (Agence pour la Securité de la Navigation Aérienne en Afrique et à Madagascar).
The dual polarization weather radars will be installed at five African airports, namely in Douala (Cameroon), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Antananarivo (Madagascar), Bangui (Central African Republic), and Libreville (Gabon). The radar systems shall be used for the detection of wind shears, convection, turbulence, and the concise provision of alerts to air traffic controllers.
For this purpose, Selex is going to provide its ShearScout® turnkey solution for wind shear detection including the supply of METEOR 60DX weather radars.
ShearScout® has been designed and implemented using SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) derived developments and can be used seamlessly for the aviation market worldwide.
The complete turnkey project comprises the delivery of weather radar sites including all necessary infrastructures. In this project, Selex is collaborating with the Spanish company Elecnor Deimos who will provide the local infrastructure.
Selex ES GmbH is proud to have received this contract following an international public tender process in competition against a pool of international providers, attesting to its outstanding capabilities in weather radar technology in general and, in particular, in the related aviation market segment.
