Modern Doppler and Dual Polarization based radar systems are prepared to offer more than the detection of hydrometeors in the atmosphere. LEONARDO Germany GmbH was the first company worldwide to successfully implement a Doppler radar based sand storm detection algorithm. The implementation was performed at Kuwait International airport. Today, the use of polarimetric radar data has taken this algorithm to a new level.
Furthermore, our mobile dual polarization based X-band radar systems have provided excellent results with respect to the detection and tracking of volcanic ash. An off-road version of the mobile X-Band radar takes you even closer to your target.
